Jamalia Brashears established JLB Advisors, LLC in 2020 to bridge the gap between the resource development of high-achieving social sector organizations and grantmaking institutions. JLB Advisors’ mission is to engage with the complex needs of organizations seeking to scale and increase their social impact in their respective communities. As a proven leader in the nonprofit and philanthropy sector, Ms. Brashears has over 15 years of experience in advancing philanthropic and grant programs valued at $15M. She has led programmatic and philanthropic strategies for foundations that include Robert Wood Johnson, Google, Tides, New York State Health, and Levi Strauss.
Prior to establishing JLB Advisors, LLC, Jamalia spent 10 years building development offices for leading nonprofits in NYC. While at the New York Presbyterian Hospital network, Jamalia increased capital, capacity, and operational funding for community-based health equity programming in three NYC boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan with over $8M in new multiyear grant awards from government, corporate, and institutional funders. Ms. Brashears teaches local nonprofits, social entrepreneurs, and funders innovations and best practices to deepen equity within organization culture and programming. Ms. Brashears identifies skills, competencies, and supports for leaders pursuing equity while developing and clarifying the goals and strategies needed to achieve intended outcomes. She currently resides in Indianapolis, IN after 16 years living in NYC.
