Julie Ashmore, JD, is President and CEO, of Ashmore Consulting. Julie spent the first half of her career in various roles and responsibilities in local, state, and regional economic development and government, the nonprofit and private sector, and public accounting. Her career elevated to business advisor and senior consultant for KPMG and Ernst & Young, where she led teams, advised and managed clients from mid-market domestic and international organizations to Fortune 500, 1000, and Global 1000 firms. During her tenure at these large firms, it became clear to her that segments of the market were not incorporating the strategic process of tax credits and business incentives before moving forward with planned business activity.  False notions were prevalent, she often heard “we don’t qualify,” when in fact, they needed guidance and to be well-served.  Hence, in 2011, Ashmore Consulting, a full-service advisory firm, was launched. Supporting clients in over 35 states, they are considered the go-to experts when it comes to maximizing tax credits, business incentives, and in the identification of strategic business locations. They guide executives and businesses of all sizes through the process of designing a portfolio of strategies and leveraging it for overall savings, cost reductions and increased profitability.

EXPERTISE

Julie has over twenty-five years of state and local taxation, economic development, site selection, tax credits and business incentives experience. She has secured and implemented more than $570 million in state and local tax credits and incentives for clients and has helped them reduce long-term operating costs through location analysis. She has formed key relationships and a mastery of essential processes that save clients many hours of intensive in-house effort while empowering them to elevate their bottom line. She and her team work with a variety of industries including distribution and logistics, manufacturing, life sciences, energy, professional service providers, agri-business, and the tech sector.

INVOLVEMENT 

Julie is an IndyCREW member, serving the membership and CREW Network committees and currently serves on the CREW Network Industry Research Committee.  She recently served on the board of the National Association of Women Business Owners-Indianapolis chapter serving on multiple committees, including co-chairing the Corporate Partners Committee.  Julie is a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP). She is also a member of the Economic Development Sustainability Committee for the International Economic Development Council. Julie has previously served on the board and was Treasurer of the Indiana Economic Development Association.  She served on the local office steering committee during her tenure at KPMG for KNOW (KPMG Network of Women).  Along with her professional responsibilities, Julie takes great pride in volunteering her time and talent for organizations that seek to improve the lives of Indiana residents. She currently serves on the board of Girls Inc. of Johnson County, served on the Growth & Planning Committee with Aspire Johnson County, Indiana, and has volunteered for both The Julian Center and USO of Indiana-Camp Atterbury. Julie previously served on committees for the Indiana Sports Corporation and on the board for Indiana Women and Work Advisory Board. 

Julie holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Ball State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Indiana University-Indianapolis.
