About

Joanna Krill has dedicated her career to help students with special education needs. She was a teacher in Prince George's County, Maryland for 6 years, and then was in Montgomery County Public Schools for 24 years where she was a teacher and a  leader within schools for a few years. The majority of this time was in central office, where she supported special education students and staff as an Instructional Specialist, and Special Education Supervisor. After 30 years, she worked for a Special Education Advocacy firm, but decided to start her own in December of 2022. Joanna has a Bachelors degree in general education, a Masters in Special Education, an Ed.S. Degree in Transition for special education students, and an administrative certificate.

Joanna Krill's advocacy firm works with families who have students who are struggling in school academically, social/emotionally, medically, or really in any way that prohibits from them from acheiving success in the school environment. Some families are seeking an Individual Education Plan ( IEP) or 504 plan for their student, and want Joanna's support in this process. Other families already an IEP or 504 lpan for their child, but need help making sure that the plans are being followed in the school, and also to make sure that the right supports are in place. Sometimes, a new placement needs to be explored.  Joanna reviews plans, gives feedback on what she reads, attends meetings with parents to support them at the meetings with the staff, and also observes students. Attorneys hire Joanna as she can serve as an expert witness in special education. Joanna is based in Herndon, VA, but due to working mostly virtually, she works in the Maryland, DC, and VA area, but in several other states as well including Washington State, New Jersey, Georgia, and West Virginia. She works with families who have kids in Pre-K through college. Joanna has experience with advocating for students with all disabilities.
